Orcas Island
Weekend get-away to Orcas Island, visiting dear friends, eating delicious food, enjoying the beauty of the island, eating more delicious food, reading, napping - this weekend was pretty much perfect.
We go back with Miri quite a few years. We live and work with her in Palm Springs every winter and go into withdrawals when the winter is over, we all migrate north and no longer spend every minute of every day with her. Miri’s boyfriend Gil is the caretaker of a huge piece of land on one end of the island. There are pastures and cows, wooded trails and the most incredible view of water and islands from the ‘main house’. I mean seriously, how idyllic is this place?
French toast with mascarpone, candied kumquats (miri-made), peaches, blueberries and bacon from a pig raised by Gil himself.
A few hours later, after adventuring around the island, we were all hungry again and steak tacos to end all steak tacos were feasted upon.
I’m already looking forward to going back this summer to visit Miri and Gil’s taco stand at the Farmer’s Market.
