A man of his word
For about the last 6 months, both our laptops have been hazardously on their last legs. Joel’s mouse/trackpad only works intermittently (um, and that’s kind of key to using the thing), the disc drive doesn’t work. My screen flickers, and because I updated the operating system, without checking how much ram i have, it’s s l o w a s m o l a s s e s. And web design has become quite a large facet of my business, so a mindnumbingly slow, 11 inch screened computer is not the best tool.
Boo, whaaa, boring complaining. My life is really hard.
Finally, we scrimped and saved enough pennies for a glorious new computer. It is such a joy. But then we ran into another problem that shows just how hard our life is: Our desk became too small for the awesome new computer.
Exhibit A
Please note the distinct lack of elbow room. And the stack of unfortunate harddrives. (I really dislike that lamp too, if we’re on the subject of talking about things that don’t work. But that is for another day.)
So Joel decided to build a new desk. Even though I know him, it still always surprises me how much he follows through with his ideas. I get an idea, write it on a to-do list, the to-do list gets lost, I remember I had an idea, put ‘remember idea’ on my to-do list, that to-do list goes missing. You get the idea. To go from ‘idea’ to ‘finished’ in a mere matter of days is sort of mind-boggling to me.
I recently read that the Restore got a whole bunch of cool stuff from an elementary school in Wallingford that was built in 1913 and has been closed completely since 1981! Off we went in search of the perfect desk-like surface. A giant, solid bathroom door came home with us. (o my gosh! perhaps this bathroom door is the culprit for Joel’s pink eye last week!!) And that giant door was turned into an awesome desk.
Exhibit B:
This new improved desk manages to be a ginormous work surface without taking over our shoe-box sized house - which is a feat in and of itself.
But where are all the harddrives and cords, you ask?
a half-length little shelf just does the trick. Yay for a new computer and giant desk!
